What is a wash/line french bound mount?
Washline mounts have been hand made with the coloured lines drawn skillyfully to match and balance the colour in the picture.
The lines are added with a special pen at holds the ink in its nib, looking a little like a crab's claw.
When properly applied a small river of colour is left which soaks into the paper and dries.
This process is no only very tricky andskilful, but the slightest error, at the last second will render the mount unusable.
The wash, is the broad area between a couple of lines where a paint brush has been applied to give a subtle colour and enhance the mount.
