The great era of steam travel gradually coming to an end, to be replaced by the more efficient and faster deisel engine trains.
David Shepherd managed to salvage and retore two of these engines, which became a life long passion.
Steam engines are still running across many countries in Asia, although they are a fast diminishing breed.
Nine Elms is south of the river Thames, north of Clapham, between Battersea power station and Vauxhall.
